6/29- Silver Time!!!

In the last 6 outings, I have found some kind of silver item. The E-trac with the big coil is working hard to bring me the good stuff. I have made it a goal to clean out hillcrest park and that has been my silver honey hole. This summer it has produced 9 silver rings and 3 silver coins. Here are my finds from my last two outings.

 After a little hot water, it's nice and clean. I love finding silver coins because they shine up so well.

 Total findings from Hillcrest. A total of $6.12 in coins, one silver, one wheat from 1944, and one Canadian nickel. Some other cool finds were the boyscout piece and a little bracelet with MARINERS edged in it.

 This was the second of 2 silver rings I found yesterday at Lions Park. I went out there with Ben and his dad. I worked an area close to the pavilion that I felt would have a lot traffic. This one was down 6 inches but the other CTR ring was on the surface.

 After Ben and his dad left at sundown, I went over the the baseball field to find some older coins. Once again for the second night in a row, I found a 1961 silver dime. It was a foot from a 1944 wheat penny as well.

6/25/12- A Silver Kind of Weekend

This weekend was one of the best weekends I have had in the last few weeks. On Thursday, I spent some time hunting at Kiwana's Park for a lost silver wedding band. Apparently a guy lost it playing kick ball. I was out there with Ben and his dad we were unable to find it. I did so happen to find a foreign coin from either Korea or Japan.

On Friday, I had some time to kill so I headed over to the park across from the Temple in American Fork. It's been known to produce some older items. I was thrilled to find my first mercury dime. To those who don't know, the goddess Mercury was on the dime before President Roosevelt. Mine was from 1941 and was about 8" down. When I saw it for the first time, I was so pumped. I have been searching for one of these for over 2 years.

The silver mercury dime started a weekend full of good stuff. Saturday I was hunting with Ben and his dad again at Orem City Park and found one silver ring there and another toy ring. On Sunday, I went back to one of my favorite parks and found 3 silver rings. Two of the silver rings were found two feet from each other. It was the first time I have ever found back to back silver rings. Here is the picture of the weekend finds.

6/21- VT Mining Update

Well it's been a long time since I posted an update and I know many of you are concern about the health of this thriving enterprise. I have been traveling a lot and have found little time for metal detecting in the last couple of weeks. For father's day, I went to Weiser Idaho to hang out with my dad and while I was there, we went down to an old farm house we used to own. My dad said if we found one coin he would be happy. Well 5 minutes in I found a 1955 Wheat penny. It just so happen to be the only thing we found haha. Here are some updated picks from the last few days.

 Total finding from the last few trips. Total is $7.62 in coins, 2 silver rings, 2 other rings, and a few odd items. The marble you see was in the same hole as a 1962 penny so I think someone lost their marbles when they lost their money hahahaha ( No pun intended)

 There has been wide speculation that the silver ring on the left was poached from my dear friend and mentor Ben. Being three bands on one ring and all silver, I can understand why someone would want it for their collection. All allegations have been put to rest :)

5/4/12- 4 Wheat Pennies To Go With 4 Silver Rings

I spent some time on the weekend working two parks that I have been to several times. One park sits across from the temple in American Fork and the other across from University Mall in Orem. Both parks have their perks. The old park across from the temple has been a popular place for old coins. I didn't find much there but I did find 4 wheat pennies from the 1940's. Hillcrest Park has been a SILVER MINE (not a gold mine since I haven't found any gold there). I found 4 silver rings this time which brings me to 8 silver rings and 2 silver coins for the park. I put sunblock on 4 times but couldn't reach my back very well so it's safe to say I have a awesome sunburn.

Also as many of you know, last year I found a total of $104 in coins and 30 total rings of which half were silver. I counted up my quarters, dimes, and nickels and I have $144 so far this year and it's no even half over. VT Mining will be blowing out it's $200 goal in no time. I also have found 16 silver rings so far this year. Total silver is just shy of 2 ounces.

6/1/12- Memorial Day Pays Out Huge Finds

The long weekend gave me some good opportunity to hit a spot I always wanted to hit. My buddy and mentor, Ben sent me a picture of a Indian Head penny that he found in the field next to the Provo Tabernacle. I decided to go down there and see what would happen with my big coil. The grass was very try and hard to dig in but there were coins all over the place. I found over 350 coins there over the weekend. I also made sure to clean off all targets from the surface. After doing that, Ben and I went back and started looking for the deep stuff. We started finding wheat penny after wheat penny and then Ben let out a "YES" when he found another Indian Head Penny. In total I found 15 Wheat pennies from 1909 which is the first year they made them, to 1955. I learned a valuable lesson that no matter how good you think you cleaned off an area, there is always more to find. I was very excited to witness Ben finding his first Indian Head penny, first Buffalo nickel, first Barber dime, first V nickel, first Seated dime, and first Shield nickel.  These are my 15 wheat pennies from the Provo Tabernacle. The oldest is a 1909 and the most recent is 1955.

 I believe this coin is from Israel. Crazy all the coins I find from other countries right here in Provo.
